VALR's normal and Fast Withdrawal services use different processing arrangements. The official guidance checked for this article excludes Sundays and public holidays from Blitz processing. Paying for Fast Withdrawal therefore does not mean every request will reach every South African bank immediately.
Check the amount, receiving bank, request time and selected service before deciding that a withdrawal is late. For the complete crypto-to-rand sequence, see the South African cash-out guide.
Normal, Fast and same-bank payments
VALR lists 30 normal rand withdrawals free each month, followed by R8.50 per normal withdrawal. Fast Withdrawal is listed at R30. Those are withdrawal-service charges; selling crypto first can incur a separate trading fee.
Its Blitz guide describes RTC processing up to R5 million during weekday business hours, with a R250,000 limit after 16:00 and on Saturdays. Amounts beyond the relevant limit or unsupported RTC destinations may use a regular route instead. Sundays and public holidays are excluded from processing in that guide.
The same source identifies Standard Bank as VALR's primary banking partner and treats same-bank withdrawals separately. A same-bank example should not be used to promise the same result at another bank.
Turn the timetable into a decision
The normal-withdrawal table gives weekday and Saturday cut-offs of 16:10 and 09:35 respectively. Requests before the applicable cut-off are shown as next-business-day cases; later requests can take two business days. These are provider estimates, with bank delays still possible.
Do not confuse that normal cut-off with the 16:00 RTC amount-limit change. They describe different processing decisions. When close to a boundary, use the current confirmation and allow a buffer instead of assuming that a few minutes will not matter.
| Your situation | What to verify before confirming |
|---|---|
| Small, non-urgent cash-out | Remaining free normal allowance and expected business-day arrival |
| Urgent weekday payment | Fast service offered, bank support, amount limit and quoted fee |
| Large request after 16:00 | Whether it exceeds the after-hours RTC limit |
| Sunday/public holiday request | Next processing opportunity rather than an immediate-payment assumption |
| Provider says sent, bank shows nothing | Payment reference and bank tracing route |
This table is a decision aid, not a substitute for the account-specific estimate.
What repeated fast payments cost
Suppose you make four R1,000 cash-outs in a month. At R30 each, Fast Withdrawal costs R120, or 3% of the total R4,000 withdrawn. One R4,000 fast payment costs R30, or 0.75%. Four normal withdrawals within the included allowance have no VALR withdrawal-service fee under the checked table.
The arithmetic is simple: number of paid withdrawals × fee, then total fees ÷ total withdrawn × 100. Batching reduces the fixed charge but changes when you receive money and how long the balance stays with the provider. It is a cash-management choice, not a reason to leave more money exposed than you are comfortable with.
For 32 normal withdrawals in a month, assuming all count towards the same allowance, two paid withdrawals cost 2 × R8.50 = R17. Confirm the current allowance rules if you use multiple accounts or sub-accounts; do not assume they each receive an independent quota.
Troubleshoot without duplicating the payment
First check whether the instruction is pending, processing or sent. Then check the receiving bank account and withdrawal reference. If you changed security details or were asked for documents, address that request through the official channel; buying a faster service does not bypass a security review.
Keep a chronology with the submission time, timezone, amount, selected service, status changes and ticket number. If the request has been sent, ask for the bank-payment reference. If it has not, contact VALR rather than asking the bank to trace a payment it has not received.
Do not send another withdrawal as a test while you are still trying to identify the first. If details are wrong, raise the issue immediately. A recall or reversal depends on the actual payment state and cannot be promised here.
Make the next cash-out predictable
Plan bank liquidity before weekends and holidays. Review the final rand amount after any crypto sale, then check the withdrawal fee and service window. Save the confirmation and reconcile it to the eventual bank credit.
The exchange hub can help if you are comparing providers for future use. For a current delay, the useful evidence is your specific payment reference and its processing stage, not another exchange's advertised speed.
