How to Withdraw Crypto to a South African Bank Account

Crypto is not normally sent directly to a bank account. You first deposit the crypto with an off-ramp that supports the asset and network, sell it for ZAR, and then request a bank withdrawal.

The route

Wallet or platform → ZAR-capable exchange → sell for ZAR → verified bank account

Before starting, confirm that the receiving exchange supports the exact crypto asset and network. Then:

  1. Copy the deposit address from your authenticated exchange account.
  2. Send a small test and wait for the required confirmations.
  3. Sell the received crypto for ZAR after reviewing the executable price and fee.
  4. Add or verify the bank account details requested by the provider.
  5. Select the normal or faster withdrawal method only after reviewing its current fee.
  6. Save the exchange statement, blockchain transaction ID, ZAR disposal value and bank reference.

Provider evidence versus bank evidence

Luno, VALR and AltCoinTrader publish ZAR withdrawal routes. That proves the provider offers a withdrawal process; it does not prove universal compatibility with Capitec, FNB, Standard Bank, Nedbank or Absa.

Crypto University found:

  • a Capitec statement dated 24 October 2024 discussing payments involving named crypto exchanges; it must be reconfirmed and is not a blanket current compatibility claim;
  • Nedbank investment-scam guidance, which is not a payment-support statement; and
  • no current bank-specific compatibility evidence for FNB, Standard Bank or Absa in the Phase 2B source set.

We therefore do not publish a “best bank for crypto” ranking or guaranteed withdrawal time.

If the withdrawal does not arrive

  • Confirm the provider shows the request as submitted or completed.
  • Verify the bank details and withdrawal reference.
  • Check whether additional verification is required in the provider account.
  • Contact both parties through official support channels.
  • Never pay a stranger an “unlock,” “tax clearance,” or “release” fee.

Use the cash-out hub for the current evidence matrix and check a provider before sending funds. Selling crypto may have tax consequences; review SARS guidance and obtain advice where needed.
