Use a USDT network supported by both the sending withdrawal screen and the receiving USDT deposit screen. Matching the word USDT is not enough. Matching the address format is not enough either. Establish compatibility before comparing price or speed.
For a documented local comparison, Luno and VALR both list Ethereum and Tron for USDT, subject to the conditions below. The receiving screen still needs to be active when you send. Documentation is not a live service-status check.

Luno restricts Tron availability to customers verified in South Africa or Nigeria using app version 8.77.0 or later. It also warns of temporary unavailability. Do not infer that an option hidden from your account can be enabled by changing residence details.
An unknown cell is deliberately not a recommendation. Confirming support at only one end leaves the route unverified. The USDT buying guide concerns acquisition; it does not establish that every subsequent transfer path works.
Fill in a two-screen transfer card
Before authorising, record these details privately:

Do not publish the completed card. It can expose personal financial activity. Re-open the recipient screen when in doubt instead of trusting an address copied from an old message or a small unsolicited transaction.
Luno specifically warns against sending USDT to its ETH wallet. Ethereum network support for a USDT wallet does not make an ETH asset wallet interchangeable with it. This distinction matters even where addresses look similar.
Compare net delivery, not fee labels
Suppose you intend to move 100 USDT. In an illustrative quote, Route A deducts 3 USDT and delivers 97; Route B deducts 0.8 and delivers 99.2. Route B only wins if both ends support it and the credited amount meets the receiving minimum. At an assumed R18 per USDT, those deductions cost R54 and R14.40 respectively. These are hypothetical model inputs, not current network tariffs.
Luno's guide describes dynamic send fees but its comparison table also lists a regional Tron fee range. Use the actual confirmation quote rather than claiming a single South African flat fee from that table. Its guide states a 10 USDT Tron minimum; confirm how the displayed minimum and fee apply to your debit and delivered amount. VALR quotes withdrawal fees before confirmation.
A self-custody wallet can additionally need the network's native asset to send a token later. An exchange withdrawal fee and the wallet's future gas requirement are separate costs. Do not send gas assets to an exchange token address on the assumption that it will solve a withdrawal problem.
Test, then verify credit
Choose a small test that still exceeds all applicable minimums after fees. Wait for the receiving platform to credit it, not merely for the sender to display “sent”. Check the asset, network and credited amount. A successful test does not remove the need to recheck the next address and quote.
If a transfer stalls, retain its transaction identifier and use official support. Do not respond to unsolicited recovery offers or send a seed phrase.
