How to Cash Out Crypto in South Africa
The clearest cash-out route is usually: send crypto to a provider that supports the asset and network, sell it for ZAR, then request a ZAR withdrawal to a bank account in your name. Confirm every stage before moving the full amount.
A safer withdrawal workflow
- Choose the destination provider. The cash-out hub records current provider evidence without claiming bank compatibility.
- Confirm the asset and network. The provider’s deposit page must support both. Copy the address from your authenticated account and check any memo or tag.
- Send a small test. Wait for it to arrive before moving the remainder.
- Review the executable ZAR value. Compare the sale price, spread and trading fee.
- Add the bank account carefully. Use an account in your own name where required and verify the details.
- Review the withdrawal fee and method. Normal and fast withdrawal options may have different costs.
- Keep records. Save the acquisition cost, disposal value in ZAR, fees, dates, wallet transaction IDs and provider statements.
Current provider evidence

| VALR | Normal and fast ZAR withdrawals listed | First 30 normal ZAR withdrawals per month published as free; conditions and other fees apply |

What this evidence does not prove
An exchange’s ZAR withdrawal feature does not prove that every South African bank treats every transaction identically. Phase 2B found only a dated Capitec policy statement and narrow Nedbank scam guidance; it did not establish blanket bank compatibility. If a payment is delayed, contact the provider and your bank using official channels rather than resubmitting blindly.
Selling, swapping or spending crypto may create a tax event. Review the South African crypto tax guide and retain records even if funds remain on a platform.
