Bybit documents an Instant EFT route for buying crypto with rand through OZOW. This is a One-Click Buy workflow, so check what asset the order buys rather than assuming it simply leaves a reusable ZAR cash balance. P2P and a crypto transfer are separate funding methods with different checks.
The useful choice depends on your starting asset. If you already hold crypto, buying more through EFT may be unnecessary. If you hold rand in your bank, a network-deposit address is not a bank-funding instruction.
Follow the documented Instant EFT route
Bybit's July 2026 guide starts at Buy Crypto and One-Click Buy, then ZAR and Instant EFT. You enter the amount, review the order and continue to OZOW to select and authorise your own bank account. The account name must match the Bybit account.
Check the processing estimate shown for the order; it is not a guarantee. It tells users with a denied deposit to check balance, completion on the OZOW page and any required authentication. The actual limits and quote should be read from the order.
Do not authorise a banking request that you did not initiate. Confirm you are in the genuine provider flow before entering sensitive information. Never send banking credentials to a support agent or another trader.
Compare the three routes by what changes hands
| Route | Starting asset | Critical checks | Extra dependency |
|---|---|---|---|
| Instant EFT purchase | ZAR in your bank | Same-name account, quote, selected asset, bank approval | Payment gateway and bank processing |
| P2P purchase | ZAR paid to a seller | Counterparty rules, exact payment details, escrow and dispute process | Another person and their payment evidence |
| Crypto deposit | Supported coin already held | Coin, network, address, memo/tag and minimum | Sending service and blockchain processing |
None is automatically cheapest. Compare the final crypto credited for the same total rand outlay, including the cost of acquiring any crypto you send from elsewhere.
A funding worksheet with no hidden double counting
Suppose a hypothetical EFT purchase debits R2,000 and credits 100 USDT after all quoted charges. Effective cost is R20 per USDT. A second route debits R2,000 to buy 102 USDT locally, then charges 1 USDT to withdraw. It delivers 101 USDT, or R19.80198 per usable USDT.
That second route appears cheaper by about R0.19802 per token under the assumptions, but only if all inputs are real, the network is supported and the transfer is appropriate for you. The numbers are not provider quotes or a recommendation to move funds across borders.
Write down bank debit, purchase quantity, additional transfer charge, final receipt and timestamp. If a quote already deducts the fee, do not deduct it again. Include a test transfer's cost if you use one.
Avoid turning a delay into a duplicate purchase
After bank approval, check the order status and bank debit before retrying. A timeout in the browser may occur after an instruction has been accepted. If the bank was debited, keep the order reference and contact official support about that payment rather than creating another order immediately.
For a crypto deposit, use the receiving account's current instructions first. The same token ticker can exist on several networks. Copy the address and required memo/tag, compare the network names on both sides and ensure the net amount clears the deposit minimum.
For P2P, stay inside the platform's documented process. Do not accept requests to use someone else's bank details or move the deal into private messages. A cheaper advertised rate does not compensate for losing the protection of the official order record.
Product scope needs its own check
The Instant EFT help identifies Bybit Fintech South Africa as a juristic representative of Altify SA Capital for the described service. That disclosure must not be stretched into a statement that every Bybit product, including derivatives or cards, is authorised or available to every South African user.
Use the exchange hub to evaluate the account you actually need and the USDT buying guide for the local purchase context. Check eligibility for the chosen service independently of its funding method. Funding a trading account should follow the task you intend to perform, not a promotion that obscures the route.
