Bybit and Binance both publish spot-trading fee schedules and South African rand payment documentation. For a South African account, compare the exact purchase, trade and withdrawal services you need. A general platform comparison cannot establish that every product in either app is available or authorised for you.
At the published non-VIP/regular spot baseline, both list 0.10% maker and taker rates. That means funding, execution and exit differences may decide the total cost before a trading-fee headline does.
A dated access-and-funding matrix
The following records public documentation checked on 20 September 2026. “Documented” is not a claim that we opened an account or completed a transaction.
| Task | Bybit evidence | Binance evidence | Still account-specific |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rand purchase funding | Instant EFT through OZOW documented | Current ZAR method must be checked in account | Quote, limits and bank acceptance |
| Spot trading | Non-VIP 0.10% baseline | Regular 0.10% baseline | Pair exceptions, discounts and tier |
| Rand exit | ZAR sell-to-bank for ZA individual KYC documented | Absa Pay ZAR withdrawal documented | Net proceeds, method eligibility and timing |
| External crypto transfer | Network-dependent withdrawal quote | Verify asset/network withdrawal in account | Minimums, fee and temporary suspension |
| Derivatives/cards | Separate product review required | Separate product review required | Entity, eligibility and legal scope |
This matrix does not put a green tick beside a product merely because the brand serves South African users elsewhere.
A fee tie does not create a cost tie
For a hypothetical R20,000-equivalent spot execution, 0.10% is R20 on either venue. If one funding quote consumes R60 more and its exit consumes R40 more, its full route costs R100 extra before considering price differences. Those are illustrative inputs, not provider tariffs.
Use a single endpoint: either crypto ready to trade, crypto delivered to a private wallet, or rand received at your bank. Do not compare one exchange's trade-ready balance with the other's already-withdrawn cash.
The calculation is total outlay minus the value of the final usable receipt under a consistent valuation. For a cash-out, use net rand received directly and avoid introducing a second exchange-rate assumption.
Read payment disclosures separately
Bybit's Instant EFT help names Bybit Fintech South Africa as a juristic representative of Altify SA Capital for the described service. That is a specific disclosure, not a licence claim covering every Bybit product. Binance's international regulatory statements likewise need to be matched to the actual contracting entity and service for the account.
A platform accepting identity documents does not by itself answer the South African product-authorisation question. Before using a higher-risk service, check the exact entity, product terms and relevant official register. If the entity or service scope cannot be established, do not select that product on the strength of a fee comparison.
Transfers add another compatibility problem
If you already hold crypto, compare the receiving deposit instructions before looking for the cheapest sending network. The asset, chain, address format and any memo/tag must agree. A network dropdown is not a suggestion to pick the cheapest row regardless of the destination.
A transfer can also create a compliance or cross-border question. Do not assume that an on-chain transaction escapes the rules applying to movement of value. Obtain advice on the actual route rather than relying on a generic exchange comparison.
Support and records
We have not ranked support response times, tested withdrawals or independently audited reserves. Compare the controls you can verify: account security, accessible transaction exports, official support channels, fee visibility and the ability to identify a failed order.
Before a larger transaction, save the quote and references. If a payment fails after a bank debit, investigate the existing order before retrying. If a crypto withdrawal is pending, distinguish exchange processing from blockchain confirmation and receiving-exchange credit.
Use the exchange hub for alternatives and the local cash-out guide for the bank endpoint. Choose the platform whose verified service fits the task, with total costs and unresolved access questions visible. Neither a fee tie nor a broader menu establishes an overall winner.
