Best Crypto Exchanges in South Africa
The best exchange is the one that supports the transaction you need at a total cost you understand. Crypto University has source-reviewed three South African platforms: Luno, VALR and AltCoinTrader. We have not performed original deposit, trading, custody or withdrawal tests, so this is an evidence comparison—not a ranking or endorsement.

How to choose
- Confirm the exact ZAR rail. EFT, instant bank payment and card funding can have different limits and fees.
- Price the whole transaction. Add deposit cost, spread, trading fee, crypto withdrawal fee and eventual ZAR withdrawal cost. A low headline fee does not prove the cheapest outcome.
- Check the entity and product. An FSCA record concerns a named legal entity and licence scope. It does not certify returns, eliminate custody risk or guarantee every product.
- Check withdrawal control. Confirm whether you can withdraw the crypto asset and network you plan to use before depositing money.
- Start small. Run a small end-to-end transaction, verify recipient details independently and keep records.
